Identification. Each shredder shall have the manufacturer's serial number permanently and legibly stamped or affixed on a major component in a readily accessible location. In addition, each shredder shall be permanently marked in a conspicuous location with the manufacturer's name or trademark.
Instruction manual. An instruction manual shall be furnished with each machine. The manual shall contain complete instructions necessary for operation, maintenance and minor repair of the machine.
Workmanship. The machine, including all parts and accessories, shall be fabricated and finished in accordance with good workmanship standards. The machine shall be free from any defect
which affects the appearance, durability or serviceability or which might cause personal injury.
Safety. All units shall have either a self-closing feed door design or have a feed throat or hopper design that protects any
operator(s) from flying debris that may be ejected from the shredder due to rotor/cutter damage, etc.
Conformance. Shall comply with the requirements of UL Standard
478. Test reports or labels from a testing laboratory recognized by
OSHA under Appendix A to 29 CFR 1910.7 are acceptable as evidence
of compliance.
QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS.
Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the supplier is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein.
Lot acceptance inspection. The finished items shall be visually inspected and functionally tested in order to establish accept- ability based on conformance to the following requirements.
Sampling. Sampling for visual inspection and testing of shredding machines shall be performed in accordance with the provisions of MIL-STD-10S. Inspection levels and acceptable quality levels shall be as follows: Visual inspections, level II, AQL 2.5%; Performance testing, level S-2, AQL 1.5%.
Visual inspection. Samples of the finished machines selected in accordance with the requirements herein shall be visually inspected to verify compliance with the salient characteristics of the CID. Compliance with the above shall be determined based upon the presence or absence of defects as classified below.
